Extreme Recycling? An Eco-Friendly Village is Being Constructed in Panama Using Recycled Plastic Bottles

After the installing the necessary plumbing and electrical lines through the walls, the entire structure is covered with concrete to give it the appearance of a traditional house. Using plastic bottles for insulation is a great approach because it ensures the homes stay cool in the tropical climate without the need for air conditioning. The houses also have the added benefit of being earthquake resistant.

Once the final phase of development is complete, the village will consist of 120 homes, an eco-lodge, and a small boutique—all surrounding the community's vegetable, fruit, and herb garden. Amenities will include hiking trails, a yoga pavilion, and manicured lawns for barbeques and outdoor gatherings.

The project is still a long way from completion, but it has the potential of becoming an innovative way of getting rid of unwanted plastic waste while creating something permanent and useful at the same time. The Plastic Bottle Village still needs funding to reach its goal. If you want to help, consider supporting the project's GoFundMe fundraising campaign.Via :earthables.com
